The Taff Trail:Talybont-on-Usk
Talybont-on-Usk lies between the River Usk and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. It has several pubs and a shop. Whilst the village is on the Taff Trail "walkers' route", it is approximately half a mile away from the Cycle Route, but usually well worth a visit for refreshments and a rest.
Cycling Route: Talybont-on-Usk to Talybont Reservoir
Almost opposite the village shop there is a canal lift bridge. Cross the bridge and continue up the road. After less than half a mile it meets the road from Cross Oak. We are now back onto the NCR8/Taff Trail cycle route. Continue around to the left up hill through Aber Village to the dam of Talybont Reservoir
Cycling Route: Talybont-on-Usk to Llanfrynach
From Talybont-on-Usk with the canal on your left follow the road via Cross Oak to Pencelli. At Cross Oak we join NCR8/Taff Trail cycle route.
After the Caravan site, and immediately before the canal, turn left into the narrow lane which runs through to Llanfrynach.
Walkers Route: Talybont-on-Usk to Talybont Reservoir
At the back of the White Hart public house, there is a stone arched bridge over the canal. This is sign-posted to the Brinore Tramway. The path is quite steep and rocky which is unsuitable to the average cyclist and why it is designated a Walkers` Route.
Walkers Route: Talybont-on-Usk to Brynich Lock
The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal runs at above the village and can be reached behind White Hart Pub or at the lift bridge just past and opposite the village shop. Walkers can follow the canal towpath right through to Brynich Lock where they rejoin the cyclist route. When leaving Talybont for Brecon, ensure the canal is on your left.
