Taffs Well to Nantgarw

(approx 1.6 miles 2.5km)

With Taffs Well Station Car Park on the left and the Industrial Estate on the right, the start of this traffic free section can be see directly ahead. This continuous tarmac path runs both to Nantgarw and the edge of Caerphilly.
Railway signal on former line We cross over the A470 on a bridge and pass a couple of cottages, then follow the steady climb of this former mineral line all the way. The High level route from Castell Coch joins us from the right and just after passing under a bridge we branch to the left ignoring the National Cycleway Route No 4.

A short climb brings us to a cycle gate by a heavy wooden way marker and a pelican crossing to help us cross the busy dual carriageway road

Nantgarw

The Taff Trail, together with National Cycle Routes 4 and 8 cross the A468 Caerphilly Road at Nantgarw. This is a dual carriageway with pelican crossing.

Going south the path drops down a short distance through woodland to the former railway line. At the bottom to the left is National Cycleway route Number 4 in a deep cutting towards Caerphilly. To the right is the route to Walnut Tree Junction at Taffs Well.

Going North through housing we rejoin another former railway line towards Pontypridd.
