Aberfan and Merthyr Vale

Abercanaid to Aberfan

(approx 2.8 miles 4.5km)

Leaving Abercanaid going South with the housing on the left and the hillside on the right, we pass underneath a high viaduct which carries a main road from one side of the valley to the other.

The Track is now almost level as it alternates between housing, woodland and cleared hillside, into Aberfan.

Aberfan and Merthyr Vale

Aberfan is well known for the disaster on 21 October 1966. As the Taff Trail runs along the contour of the valley, the Garden of Remembrance can be seen high above.

Merthyr Vale is across the other side of the valley from the Taff Trail.
